Daddy's Astronomy class

Daddy is taking an astronomy class that has a lab. Last week he had an assignment to look at and draw the waxing moon. Because of the boot on his leg and pain in his ankle, he can't climb to the rooftop observatory very well. So he made arrangements to do his lab at the regular observatory at CSU. Since it is open to the public at that time, Mama and I went with him.

This is a shot of the moon that Mama took with her fancy new camera. It's pretty low in the sky, so the professor set up a telescope at street level.
Daddy and I with the telescope. Daddy is making drawings or taking notes. I got to look through the telescope but Mama missed that shot.
Mama then took a look through the telescope and went to see if she could take a photograph with her camera through the lens, but I moved the telescope and all she could see then was black. :-(

Dr. Culver was NOT amused with me.

We then went into the observatory and looked at the star Arcturus. Through the telescope it looked like a VERY bright dot. The professor said that there were no planets visible at this time of the year, and that those are more interesting to see.

He then made the roof slide back over the big telescope, which was pretty cool to watch (but a little scary to a big boy like me.) It was far too dark for Mama to get a picture of it.
