Friday Fright

Friday morning I slept in as I had not been feeling well. I was spiking fevers and my parents had taken turns sleeping on a mattress in my room. Daddy went upstairs to check on me at about 9:00 am and I was still asleep.

He then came down and was chatting with Mama for a while before they heard me stirring. When he went up to check on me, he found that I had opened the bottle of children's acetaminophen (tylenol) and was wearing quite a bit of it. I had also dumped some on the bed and pillow where the parents had been sleeping. However, since neither of them could be sure just how much was outside and how much had gotten inside of me, Daddy called poison control. They said we needed to go to the hospital.

Away we went down to Children's Hospital! I was quiet, and my parents were worried. The nurse got me checked in and hooked up to some monitors and the waiting began. I don't like the sticky things on my chest and pulled them off several times. Mama got good at sticking them back on. Four hours to wait seemed like forever! Finally, Daddy got me to lie down and rest for my nap. Unfortunately, that is when the nurses came in to draw my blood for the laboratory test.

More waiting while the lab ran the test. I would no longer leave the leads on, so I was given permission to leave them off and walk the halls. So I learned the colors of the tiles in the hallway, with one or the other parent in tow. I was feeling much better now.

The result from the test came in close to the number where I would receive medicine, so the nice doctor was on the phone with poison control for a while, just to be sure. It was finally determined that I did not ingest a toxic level, but it was close.

The doctor also noticed that I was starting to get an ear infection and started me on antibiotics. This is probably a good thing since Mama and Daddy both have strep throat now so the whole family is taking medication. I'm a little less enthusiastic about taking my medication than I was...which is probably a good thing.
